Victim of Mortal Art

by

Janet Owenby

Running to the city playground,
taunting chants ringing upon ears.
Trying to ignore anger's sound,
wiping away the bitter tears.

Statue sculpted by hearts of stone,
wearing the golden crown of pain.
Innocence ripped from the throne,
standing in evil's pouring rain.

Bowing her head as strangers pass,
hiding her lesion brushed face.
Her torso a pain stroked mass,
beneath elegant frilly lace.

Fleeing into the chilling night,
bearing a paper maché heart.
Fearing her drunken father's plight,
victimized by mortal hand's art.
