Alone

by

Vincent Oxford

Alone
so very alone

with friends, laughter
engaged, forget the bitter pain of desolation
short-lived

as it quietens, I find myself, beside myself
distant, alone
welcome the whispers of the hollow pain
blunt, forceful, familiar
I realise that I'm always alone
even in the company of others
never close, happy, fulfilled
