The Poppies Window Page 3

by

Clive Michie

Assembled with the last piece of zinc in place and soldiered. Time to
see what it looks like with light coming through it.

Off to the garage to get dirty. Time to cement.

1 cup varsol - 1/2 cup boiled linseed oil - 2 teaspoons of Japan dryer
and a good squirt of lamp black mix well in separate bowl...(coffee can)
Add English whiting till mixture is thick but still runny - if a screw driver is
placed in it and removed it would run off slowly. Spread on window like
A slimy black gelatinous globular grease. (hahaha)

I mixed the solution when the ingredients where cold so when they
warmed up they got a little wet- so I add some whiting to the top of
the window and using a brush spread it all over Like below.

I let it set up for a half hour then brush it all off. It is very important
that when you use the brush you do not push to hard and keep the
brush flat to avoid scrapping the cement out from under the lead.

I use a mechanical pencil with hard lead in it and using the sharpener
on the top of the pencil I keep the lead sharp to get in to the corners.
When the pencil has loosened the cement out of the corners I stand
the window up on an angle and gently rub the loose pieces off with
the brush. Keep the pencil upright and avoid removing cement from
under the lead.

This area has been cemented and cleaned and below is the finished
product.
