I as Time: For Once

by

Svetleena Choudhary

1

I am so lonesome
Inscrutably desolate,
The dampness
On my cheeks
Is not of the rain
I am trying to conjure up.
I plead
Only to be rocked,
Defied
By a chiasma of
The heart and eyes
A spell of chicanery
And,
Black tears fall...

2

The rain makes me cry.
Always
As, if it brings with it
All the emotion in the world
Tosses
It
Like a pancake
And
Serves
It
Like the dribble of ice cream
Cradled in a cone.
Like the Dead Sea,
My cheeks anchor
That
Which is rightfully theirs.
The salt underlying
The pain
Still cuts
And, then burns
Vaticinating
The involuntary retribution
Of
An aching soul...

3

I,
On a path of self-annihilation
Foolishly
Assert myself
Towards
That coruscant oasis
Which may,
Anytime
Dissolve into a darkling mirage.

I live with my consolation
My thirst satisfied
With the mere illusion
Of an oasis.
The mirage,
I,
Decisively defy.

4

The rain on my face,
Electric emotion
On my lips.
I taste the world.
My history,
Always,
Tossed like pancake
Served like ice cream
