Gigantic Betrayal

by

Solomon Machardson

Is there a more gigantic betrayal

Than the one that made Lord Jesus cry out,

"Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachttham" -

My God, why has Thou forsaken me?

Just like you, Jesus life began

As a seed in his mother’s womb;

The seed sprouted into a baby

And the baby blossomed into a boy

And the boy bloomed into a man

And the man ripened into a prophet

And the prophet preached the Love of Neighbours.

But, the Garden of Gethsemane proved

That his teaching had fallen on deaf ears!

Though his life was in danger,

Yet Jesus alone kept vigil;

His apostles went to sleep!

Then Judas betrayed him with a kiss!

And Saint Peter denied him three times!

And, the last straw of all, was the cross!

What a gigantic betrayal it was!
