Despair
by
Sherrie Knapp
Salty tears are the only spice of life
cleansing all the pain that racks my heart from day to day
Believing in the basic goodness of man
has wasted all the shreds of hope away.
I cannot understand the how, the why
a human being knowing all the feelings real
would hurt intentionally a giving soul
And make a human less intent to feel
Remembering, I am, the times of innocence
days when despair was easily cast aside
When strength was easily replenished
and others failings I could readily abide
Now the years left are few
To life i will soon bid adieu
and still a faint smile curls my lips
I still extend my fingertips
No matter what you say
No matter what you do
My heart may crack and tears will fall
But i remain in love with you
I remain hopelessly in love
in love
with
you.
