The Hourglass

by

Shannon Billings

An hourglass sits alone in the room.
It steals our moments and shatters our dreams.
These hearts race with such good intention,
But we're old enough to quiet our screams.

Stop the ticking, quiet time.
The world spins, we are still.
Panic builds to breaking points.
Time has come to test our will.

Trying to catch up,
As the world moves ahead.
We're filled to the souls,
With understandable dread.

I've prayed and I've cried,
Given advice and taken some back.
But nothing makes up for
The simple time that we lack.

An hourglass sits alone in the room.
It steals our moments, it breaks my heart.
Take a breath, try to be strong.
Time itself will tear us apart.
