The Poet

By

Scott R. Jones

As he sat alone with pen in hand
It was a cold winter night, when he started to write
Hoping to find that creative flow
For he has a message and the world must know

It may be about the clear blue sky
Or an eagle that floats on the clouds so high
It might be a poem of heartache and sorrow
Or the sweet smell of pie he will eat tomorrow

It could be a friend from days gone by
Or the child he knew, that always said hi
Words of wisdom and truth appear
When he writes of God and sheds a tear

Emotions stir when he writes of his wife
Or the son he loves, for he'd give his life
That new baby girl that touches his heart
Or his son's beautiful wife, now part of their life

So many things the poet can say
When he sits and ponders about the day
The miracle of poetry can touch a life
And melt a heart on a cold winter's night
