Forgetting Can Be Annoying

by

Saundra L. Washington

I was heading toward the kitchen
For a slice of apple pie.
But by the time I got there,
I had forgotten why.

I somehow misplaced my toothpaste,
Could not find it anywhere.
I looked and looked and at long last,
Found it in the 'Frigidaire.

I wrote a letter to a friend
Sharing plans to soon elope.
I mailed the letter but forgot
To stamp the envelope.

My father asked me for a ride
To his doc for a checkup.
I told him, "Yes, of course I will."
But I forgot to pick him up.

Sometimes my mind goes blank
Can recall scarcely anything.
I make excuses for myself,
But feel like a ding-a-ling.

Forgetting can be annoying
And I would like to tell you why.
But it seems I can't remember
So for now I'll say, "good-bye."
