Lay Me Down Softly

By

Sarah Gibson

Lay me down softly
Please, let me rest
Lay me down softly
Back in my nest

you don't hear my tears
you don't feel my cries
you won't be there to hold me
hold me when i die.

Lay me down softly
Just let me rest
Lay me down softly
Put me back in my nest

you don't stand by my side
you don't come when I call
you've left me here, left me here!
to fight against them all.

Lay me down softly
Give me cheap rest
Lay me down softly
In my sweet nest

Friend or foe
which one are you
Where is my love
Because you surly won't do.

Lay me down softly
softly to rest
Lay me down softly
in my great nest

You've failed me now
failed once and for all
I'll try to have courage
I will try to stand tall

But please go away now
You've hurt me too bad
I'm down and I'm weak
And about to go mad

Please go away
You've done me wrong.
Just do me one thing
Before you are gone.

Please lay me down softly
Please put me to rest
For I am away
Away far from my nest
