But Flowers Cry

by

Rusty Broadspear

Bright birth of brand new day, a fresh start

The Sun hangs bright in flawless sky.

Optimistic first step but with heavy heart,

Loved ones lost, I see the flowers cry.

First step is the hardest, holding head high,

Painting the future with false face.

Wistful whispered prayers abound in reply

Protecting me in their hushed embrace.

To know that I'm thought of in kind esteem

Grants hope and trust to lead me through.

This scheme for my evening is not a dream,

Though flowers cry, it should lead me to you.

With spirit in change and God as my guide,

Trust as my friend and all I imply.

I'll survive to the end and in faith will abide.

This day is still bright - but flowers cry.
