Barriers

by

Marlicia Fernandez

Tearing down walls
I had made myself
Discarding masks
I had not known existed
Help me,
I'm fearful
Of being hurt again
Don't let me regret
Showing you my soul
With all its quirks and oddities
It's mine
I need reassurance
That you will try to understand
And not bring me down
As so many others have
The walls and masks
Are coming down slowly
Have patience with me
I need time to be sure that
You
Are
Different.
