Southern Comfort

by

Linda Dousay

I stood between two pillars

And I watched a young man cry,

“You are the only hope I have—

I love you now,” he lied.

His agony, his torture

Tore my heart in two—

He reached for help—he reasoned well—

He lied again—I’m through.
