Rip Tide

by

Kendall Messner

The tide comes in,
and the tide goes out
And knows not the meaning of "Fair".

The Flats are ripe and ready for salt
For the lash of ocean water
The splash of life is a blessing
be it a son or daughter

As the waters grow rich and reach down deep
the flats they come alive.
From foamy top to the sandy floor
Like a powerful tempests hive

Crashing in lashing in raging
and caressing and loving and shoving with joy
The foam and the spray like a firework display
as the man moves away from the boy.

As the power goes slack
and the water pulls back,
as the push begins to yield
The fruits of this labor are now there to savor
treasures are slowly revealed.

Beachcombers delight as day turns to night
Splash of emerald sunset bleeds.
The strength of the tide is more than pride
it is driven by the best mans deeds.

The pull of the moon
the spin of the earth,
life is the merry go round.
Hold on tight, dream laugh and fight
to the turning where we all run aground.

The Flats are ripe and ready for salt
For the lash of ocean water
The splash of life is a blessing
be it a son or daughter

The tide comes in,
and the tide goes out
And knows not the meaning of "Fair"
