Sonnet for a Rebel Angel

by

Justin St. Pierre

An angel falls with broken wings tonight
A tear is shed, the rose it wilts and dies
Trembling, she crawls toward the light
Yet damned to drown beneath a sea of lies
Now only scars remain where once were wings
Far below the dying moon she weeps
And through the mist the Morning's Sun doth sing
She breathes the rich summer air and sleeps
Awake to feel my touch upon your face
My hands running through your gilded hair
And tender words assure you that you're safe
Alone with you and free from despair
Still these are hopes that summer brings to me
Now angel open your heart and you'll see
