Intrepid Thoughts

by

Joseph Birnbaum

Who Am I? Not a fly.
I am curiosity mixed with wry.
Still, no matter how much I try,
I have to wonder, who am I?

I am certainly not my hair,
Nor am I the clothes I wear.
I am made of things I hold dear,
Feelings unseen, emotions I bare.

I'm the definite article in a story I write.
Not the leather that binds it with might.
Cast away the dimensions to leave nothing but light,
Gaze through the ink while you read through the night.
