Life
by
Jolanta Gradowicz
Oh, Life! I’m going uphill to reach the top,
My aching feet are bleeding, scratched hands
Hold on to trunks, I’m out of breath, the strands
Of my hair get caught in branches… Stop!
But I have to go on – the walk is non-stop.
I’m climbing the hill through miles of sands
To find the promised piece of earth, free lands -
The final destination after the last crop.
Birds like angels bring solace to my mind.
I reach a stream at last – I rinse my face
With fresh, life-giving water - the last rite.
I look for green meadows I dreamed to find,
And for the shepherd with sheep in the place -
I’m going on to see the brightest light… |
