To My Oldest Son Dubby
by
Jack Mann

To my oldest son Dubby
Who grew up so strong
And over the years
Could never do wrong
To earn on his own
His education you see
I am so proud
As if it were me
Life still goes on
Now that you’re done
To enjoy the happiness
That you have just won
I know that you will always
Be my pride and joy
As we grew up together
When you were a boy
Working together
From day to day
We acquired a love
That is here to stay
As I grow older
And my time gets near
Remember the good times
With nothing to fear
And as you go on
Towards life’s narrow goal
Pass it on to others
That you meet in the poll
Especially your children
Your wife and your friends
For that’s all that matters
When you get to life’s end
