The Over Reaching Bough

by

Ehsan Elahi Ehsan

The hearts meet and depart,
Perhaps they meet to depart,
They sit awhile, groan awhile,
Caress awhile, and then,
They know, that they have to,
Prepare, for a sojourn ahead,
Which they have to cover all alone,
But ere they reach their destination,
They have the feelings, that their
Union on earth was not altogether vain,
Their love which seemed so transitory,
Was not so fruitless and frail,
It had its off-shoots, reaching the
Brims of eternity, which in that
Foreign land provided them feelings,
That this land was not altogether stranger
To them. And they can enjoy, in this way,
Their sweet memories of the past,
Holding a piece of earth in heaven.
