Peaceful Place

by

Dave Chukwuji

This place is peaceful
the worshipers are all gone
and the gods stand unattended
night has fallen
birds fly home to rest their little heads
in their little nest.

But, we, the lost
must seek solace in palm wine
and tomorrow will find us
under the Iroko
with yesterday’s wine in our eyes
…we are lost.
