…Behind Closed Doors

I have never been here before
but I have often wondered
what happens when people
are behind closed doors
I have dreamt of this moment
prepared for it all my life
rehearsed the lines like a movie star
and choreographed my moves…waiting for history
Now history is happening
your breath is in my face
and the lines have left my breath unsaid
my knees have dropped from under
I can’t even move
my practiced steps have melted away
unable to carry me to the door to turn the key
…to put us behind closed doors.
