Good bye Step-Monster

by

Cinnamon Brown

Today I decide to live my life for me
No more smiling and being phony
I have tried my whole life to make this work
Trying to love past the hurt
I knew that you were not my mother
I knew we never truly liked each other
I always saw the hates in your eyes
I always saw right through your lies
Releasing you allows me to be free
Being free means me being me
I don't have to pretend that I like your cooking
Then throw it out when you are not looking
I don't have to sit at your boring church functions
I can have my own Saturday Luncheons
I do not have to explain why I read Poe
An author you have no desire to know
Billie Holiday can be played as loud as I want her to
Ain't Your business if I do
Today I decide that you are out of my life
Today all you are to me is my father's wife
