You Have Murdered Sleep

by

Chinedu Uba

My Sweet One,
What would I say now?
I know no sleep nor rest again
My eyes have refused to close again
Even when it's night
And all creatures should sleep
I'm awake, with my sweetheart in my head.

What do I call my Darling now?
A thief? A murderer?
Darling has stolen my sleep
And has killed it
Darling is a murderer,
A killer of sleep

You have murdered sleep
My very own sleep;
Robbed me of the joy and merits of a good night rest
And replaced it with the joy and passion and the beauty of knowing you.
No choice I have, I like it,
And I love you honestly.
