The Butcher

by

Charles Okafor

[in protest of female genital mutilation]

Ikenga has gone off to fetch the butcher
His third fruit is the weak vessel, ready for the butcher's cutter
Soon too soon
The shivers will descend
And silence will be broken
When the butcher's blade has gone through
Her protruding clit.

Ikenga has gone off to fetch the butcher
And descends sudden silence,
Sudden piercing scream.
Alas the knife is all blood,
While I sit shock-gazing
As I end my verse.
