 Homework and I

by

Brad Pike

When I come home from school
I throw off my heavy backpack
Upstairs I run like a fool
To watch TV like a maniac

My homework is not done
I realize quite long after
So I can’t have any fun
It’s stolen my joy, my laughter

If only I’d done it sooner
If only I’d had just a care
I wish I’d simply given it thought
I’m completely without a prayer

And with a frown, my grades go down
And so I die without a sound
I feel so empty, so alone
I want to cry, to scream, to moan

Now, my dignity, my confidence
My self-esteem, all sentiments
They now all cost just 50 cents
I’ll sell them for two compliments
