So Many Different Things

by

Alice C. Bateman

I've lived and worked with millionaires
Been 'this close' to future kings
Worked with well-known entertainers
Done so many different things

And yet it's still the simple things
That make my world go round
The laughter of my children
The ordinary sounds

Of my frantic, busy household
So often filled with joy
The beauty of my girls
The pranks of little boys

Yet some days I get so sad
When I think of all the friends
That I will never get to see again
Who've met an early end

Who've said farewell to this life
Who've been taken from us here
Their words in cards and letters
Always bring the tears

I've been sorting through my old life
To make room for the new
And Clive, I have to say this
I'm so glad it includes you

I know that you'll make up for
All the pain that I have known
And I know that in our future
I will never be alone
