Living Like A Ghost
by
Alice C. Bateman
Will one day someone see me
And fall in love at once
Then will he come and tell me
Or just leave me with a hunch
A feeling that he might care
Or a knowledge to hold close
To shake apart my feelings
Stop living like a ghost
I only want a simple life
Some love, a hand to hold
Someone to turn and talk to
As I am growing old
Why does that seem
Too much to ask
Of this cruel
Heartless world
Why does that seem
Too much to ask
Why should that be
Too much to need
Someone to share a book with
Someone who doesn't mind
If your hands become arthritic
Or your eyes get almost blind
Someone who clearly treasures
Each new line in your face
Someone who dearly measures
The quickening of life's pace
Someone who wants to be there
When each day's work is done
Someone who wakes beside you
With every rising sun
Why does that seem
Too much to ask
Of this cruel
Heartless world
Why does that seem
Too much to ask
Why should that be
Too much to need
I'm fine alone, I tell myself
And most of the time, I am
But sometimes I get lonely
And crave for just one man
Who wants to build
One world, with me
A man who sees
What I can see
A man who sees
What I can see
Why should that be
Too much to need
A man who sees
What I can see
Why should that be
Too much to need
