Last Anniversary

by

Alice C. Bateman

It never does get any easier
Knowing that you've gone away
Hard to believe it's been so many years
And it happened on this very day

I woke up this morning all cloudy
All teary-eyed and quite sad
But it wasn't until someone told me the date
That I knew why this day is so bad

Because it is your Anniversary
Not one in your life, but of death
I don't know if you know how it hurts me
How empty I am, how bereft

I miss you so much my eyes flooded with tears
When I realized this is the day
The day of your Last Anniversary
And all I can do now is pray
