Give This World a Shake

by

Alice C. Bateman

Once upon a time

There was a nursery rhyme

The kind that filled the children’s hearts with hope

Of dragons and of dreams

And medieval schemes

Where every single hero seemed to cope

The dragons could be slain

And there wasn’t really pain

In the stories in the world of Brothers’ Grimm

But when someone was hurt

Or landed in the dirt

His buddies or his family rescued him

Welcome to the nightmare

Read the Book of Life

Read between the lines

Of suffering and strife

Feel the pains of birthing

Experience the joy

A whole new human being

Not a latex toy

Endings are beginnings

All death is reborn

We will see a new beginning

There will be a brand new morn

It is within our power

To give this world a shake

To get it back on track

Before the bindings break
