I Need Myself

by

Alice C. Bateman

I’ve waited too long for the right thing

To spoil it all with the wrong thing

Everybody loves me, why don’t you?

Everybody loves me, can’t you love me too?

The one I need right now is me

I need to be who I can be

I need to do the things I do

To do these things I don’t need you

I’ve waited too long for the right thing

To spoil it all with the wrong thing

For all the pain, there will be gain

After the stress, I’m free again

I need myself, myself alone

A chance to see how I have grown

A chance to do the things I must

Before this body turns to dust
